Cheryl Bains is an operatically trained Soprano and a classical-crossover artist.
Most recently in her home country, India, Cheryl had the privilege to appear in Mumbai’s iconic Royal Opera House, as the featured performer, for the historic first chapter of “Les Entretiens de Royaumont” in India, hosted by the Indo-French Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
She has also been named First Runner Up in the Con Brio Foundation’s 2024 Competition Suite and Festival, hosted at Mumbai’s National Center of the Performing Arts (NCPA) and sponsored by Furtados Music and Steinway India.
In New Delhi, Cheryl has appeared in numerous recitals with the acclaimed The Neemrana Music Foundation, collaborating with world-renowned artists and coaches such as Vanessa Garcia, Arnaud Kientz, Clémence Chabrand and Mathis Calzetta.
Cheryl has also collaborated with Ravi Pawar, the Symphony King of India; co-composing and releasing an album titled Ravi Raga, which explores a unique confluence of Hindustani and Western Classical music.
A graduate of the Manhattan School of Music, New York, Cheryl was well received in roles such as Gretel in Hänsel und Gretel, Zerlina in Don Giovanni, Lakmé in Lakmé, and Maria in The Sound of Music in concert work. At MSM, she was featured as a soloist with the MSM Chamber Choir and Chamber Orchestra under the baton of acclaimed conductor Maestro Kent Tritle, and at choice events such as the MSM Annual Spring Gala and MSM’s 15th Annual International Student Concert & Live Webcast, where she made her composer debut with arrangements of traditional Indian music; the Saint/Poet Kabir’s Ghat ghat mein panchi bolta and the Indian national song Vande Mataram for western instruments.
In New York, Cheryl has also had the opportunity to work with and perform in masterclasses for renowned singers, directors and coaches such as Lisette Oropesa, J’Nai Bridges, Margo Garrett, Tazewell Thompson and Carolyn Marlow.
A scholarship recipient for Classic Lyric Arts, Cheryl was also invited to train and sing in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy, where she performed in concert, and in roles such as Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro.
Raised in Singapore, Cheryl was featured and well reviewed as a soloist in numerous shows, most notably in works such as Rutter’s Mass of The Children (Singapore premier) with the Metropolitan Festival Orchestra, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the Braddell Heights Symphony Orchestra and Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms with Orchestra of the Music Makers under the baton of Maestro Joshua Kangming Tan and the mentorship of Madam Khor Ai Ming at the prestigious Esplanade Concert Hall.
Presently based in Los Angeles on an Artist Visa, Cheryl is currently under the tutelage of critically acclaimed Composer, Arranger and Orchestrator, Ladd McIntosh. She goes between The United States, India and Singapore.
Cheryl looks forward to appearing with the esteemed Kolkata Sinfonietta Orchestra and Choir, at the stately Victoria Memorial Hall in December of 2024.
